Preserving Atlanta's LGBTQ Heritage

Preserving Atlanta's LGBTQ Heritage Welcome to Queer Spaces Atlanta's blog post on "Preserving Atlanta's LGBTQ Heritage." In this post, we will be discussing our digital museum project based in Atlanta, Georgia, that showcases archival materials and maps significant to LGBTQ culture in the city. Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as researchers, students, and individuals interested in LGBTQ history, culture, and activism. One of the unique aspects of our digital museum is the use of storymaps from ARCGIS. These storymaps enhance the visitor's experience by providing interactive and informative content, including video, audio, and images. Through these storymaps, visitors can explore different aspects of LGBTQ history and culture in Atlanta, gaining a deeper understanding of the community's struggles, triumphs, and contributions. As a grad school project, our digital museum does not have a physical location and is solely based online. However, this allows us to reach a wider audience and provide a valuable resource for exploring and understanding LGBTQ history and culture in Atlanta. Our website features high-quality scans, videos, and audio of archival materials, preserving LGBTQ culture in the city for future generations. One of the highlights of our digital museum is the inclusion of a link to an existing project on ArcGIS. This project provides additional information and resources for those interested in delving deeper into LGBTQ history and activism. It serves as a valuable tool for researchers and students, offering a comprehensive view of the LGBTQ community's impact on Atlanta. Another exciting feature of our digital museum is the exhibit where visitors can click on an image to access a video oral history. These oral histories provide personal accounts and perspectives from members of the LGBTQ community, giving visitors a firsthand look into the experiences and struggles faced by individuals in Atlanta. Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ community, a researcher, a student, or simply someone interested in LGBTQ history and culture, our digital museum is a valuable resource for you. We invite you to explore our website, dive into the storymaps, and engage with the archival materials and oral histories. By preserving Atlanta's LGBTQ heritage, we hope to create a better understanding and appreciation for the community's contributions and struggles. Thank you for joining us on this journey of preserving Atlanta's LGBTQ heritage. Together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting future for all.
